The next year, fire started in a defective flue in the Gist Hotel, destroying buildings on both sides of Cascade Avenue between Fir and Spruce Streets. A raging inferno destroyed buildings on Cascade Avenue, consuming businesses and residences, including the Sisters Drug Store and Post Office.
